Youth Pastor J. Byrl Murdock is also a luthier (builder of instruments) small business owner. He was born October 12, 1977 (his teenagers like to point out that he was born in the 1900’s) and was raised in many places including Crawfordsville, Gary, Florida, and Lafayette, Indiana. Lafayette where he finally settled and became Lighthouse’s youth pastor and assistant pastor to his dad, Bill Murdock. Byrl was saved at the age of 12, when he became concerned about dying and going to Hell. This thought overwhelmed him to the point where he quit worrying about all the questions about God he couldn’t answer and just trusted in Him for the answers he did know were concrete. Those answers were that Byrl was a sinner, and the price for sin is death in Hell, but that Christ died for those sins on the cross. Byrl knew that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. So, at the age of 12, he knelt down in his dad’s office by the old leather couch and told God that he believed Christ died for his sins and he was trusting Christ as his Savior right then. It wouldn’t be much longer, when as a teenage boy, Byrl knew God had called him to preach.
Byrl has been known to say, “Everything good that has come to his life has come at church.” This includes his sweet wife, Rachel Murdock, who Byrl claims is the sweetest “girl” in the whole world. Together they have four children, three boys and a girl, Ben (17), Eva (16), Jesse (12), and Cole (4). Byrl and Rachel have been serving together in the ministry since they got married in 2002. In 2011, Byrl was hired on as the youth pastor and assistant to the pastor.
Byrl’s goals are to teach the youth:
Byrl’s education came from the source of wisdom - which we all need to use as our source for wisdom - the Word of God. His life verses are Ecclesiastes 12:13, Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man, and Matthew 22:37, Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
