Welcome to Lighthouse Baptist ChurchWe are excited to have you join us. Please watch a special message from our Pastor!

Our HistoryLighthouse Baptist Church began in the summer of 1997, when a group of people began meeting in the living room of Pastor Bill Murdock’s house on Sunday mornings. They were looking for an independent, fundamental, King James Version (KJV) Bible believing Baptist Church in Lafayette, Indiana. After a few months of steady growth and meeting three times a week, Pastor knew God was leading him to find a building and give birth to a new church.

Meet Our Pastor
Pastor Bill Murdock was born and raised in Crawfordsville, Indiana. When he was sixteen years old a friend convinced him to visit Eastside Baptist Church on a Sunday morning. There, he found a warm welcome in the youth department and an engaging senior high Sunday School teacher, Gene Gleason. Unknown to either of them at the time, this dedicated Sunday School teacher would become Bro. Murdock’s lifelong friend and mentor.
Bro. Murdock attended Sunday School and church for several weeks, then on a Sunday morning in April, 1972, Bro. Gleason asked him to remain after class. Fully expecting to be reprimanded, and most likely told not to return due to his horsing around in Sunday School, Bro. Murdock says that he was “shocked to the foundation of his soul” by what Gleason had to say that morning.
Once all of the other young people had left the room, Bro. Gleason looked at him and said, “Bill, I want to ask you a question. If you were to die today, are you 100% sure you would go to heaven or do you have some doubt?”
Stunned by this remarkable and unexpected question, this suddenly troubled teenager replied with the only answer that he could come up with,
which he hoped would stop this line of questioning, “How can you know something like that?” he asked. Instantly, Bro. Gleason opened his Bible to 1 John 5:13 and read These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. Bro. Gleason concluded with the comment, “When you’re saved, you know it.”

Meet Our Assistant PastorByrl & Rachel Murdock
Youth Pastor J. Byrl Murdock is also a luthier (builder of instruments) small business owner. He was born October 12, 1977 (his teenagers like to point out that he was born in the 1900’s) and was raised in many places including Crawfordsville, Gary, Florida, and Lafayette, Indiana. Lafayette where he finally settled and became Lighthouse’s youth pastor and assistant pastor to his dad, Bill Murdock. Byrl was saved at the age of 12, when he became concerned about dying and going to Hell. This thought overwhelmed him to the point where he quit worrying about all the questions about God he couldn’t answer and just trusted in Him for the answers he did know were concrete. Those answers were that Byrl was a sinner, and the price for sin is death in Hell, but that Christ died for those sins on the cross. Byrl knew that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. READ MORE

Meet Our School StaffCory & Beth Mills - School Administrators
Cory Mills came to LBC through a Sunday school campaign in 2000. He made a profession of faith that day and continued growing in the church and in the Lord. He later married his wife, Beth, in 2003. In 2009, he began volunteering at the Academy while he was laid off from his construction employment. While volunteering, the Lord gave him a burden for the school, the students, and the ministry. He would privately go into the back storage room and pray for God to give him an opportunity to serve. The following summer the current principal left to start another church so Lighthouse Baptist Church offered Cory and his wife the position. In the fall of 2010 Cory became the principal of LBCA, and he and his wife have faithfully served as the Principal, Administrator, teachers and in various ministries in the church.

Meet The Director of Still Waters Boys Home
Aaron & Bethany Patton
Aaron Patton was born and raised in North Carolina. He was born on September 9th, 1986. Aaron, the baby of the family (having one older sister), was raised by his mother, with the help of one set of dedicated grandparents. However, despite growing up in both a good home and church (Midway Baptist Church- Jamestown, NC), around the age of 11, he fell in with the wrong crowd and began getting into trouble including gang activity, drugs, and alcohol. At the age of 13, he was kicked out of school and his mom made the difficult decision to send him to a boy’s home. While at the home, the Lord graciously saved his soul and turned his life around.
Once departed from the boy’s home, he went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. After serving his time in the military, he relocated to Indiana to marry his wife, Bethany. They were married on October 15th, 2011.
While in Indiana, he served as an active member in his church in various roles, and also worked as a local police officer for 7 years. He surrendered to the call to preach in 2013. He became a father for the first time on April 13th, 2015 to their first daughter, Naomi Joann. God later called him and his family to serve as missionaries in North Carolina at the boys home that he was in himself 17 years prior. While there, the Lord blessed them with their second daughter, Moriah Erin on November 19th, 2018.
God, in His infinite wisdom and gracious provision, unexpectedly moved them to Still Waters Christian Boarding School in Union, Mississippi on September 2nd, 20019. Since serving there, the Lord has seen fit to bless them with a son, Malachi James, who was born on July 13th, 2021.
The Lord has been nothing but good to the Patton family, and they desire to do all they can to serve Him, bring others to know Him, giving all honor, glory and thanks to God alone and strive so, “that in all things he might have the preeminence.” (Colossians 1:18).
